If you are in Laguna Niguel or Orange County looking to book a photographer, look no further. This blog post will tell you exactly when to book your family session, and also what you get when you hire me (it’s luxury and zero confusion!)

Most families have no idea what actually happens between hitting send on an inquiry form and holding their final images in their hands. And honestly? That “in-between” is where the experience is either elevated… or overwhelming.
After photographing hundreds of families here in Orange County, I’ve learned something important. Clients want information. They want to know what is happening and what their family photo session timeline looks like. Clients want direction and clarity. Since I understand that, I can provide you with the most elevated experience.
Most of the time the first question I get asked is “how long is the session?” Simply because parents are worried about their child and their behavior. By the end of our consult call families feel relaxed and ready. They are excited to capture these special moments. I know that you are going to feel the same.

When families know what to expect from their family photography process, they show up differently. My goal is to make this a stress free session for you. I want my families to know they are in good hands.
The stress rarely comes from the kids, the outfits, or even the weather. It comes from the unknown.
And almost always, it’s mom carrying the mental load of all of it. As a mom myself I know that mental load. I did all the work for you so you don’t need to worry about a thing. If you are looking for when to book your maternity session be sure to check out my blog post on that as well!

Short answer? Sooner than you think.
If you’re planning a fall session (especially for holiday cards), most Orange County family photographer calendars begin filling as early as late summer. I keep my calendar open year round to ensure that my clients can get their preferred date. With that said, those who book early are the ones who are happiest with their choices.
Here’s a general guideline for when you should book:
Booking early gives you the best options for lighting, location, and timing — all of which directly impact your final images.
I’ve had families book nearly a year in advance for annual portraits… and others reach out hoping for “next weekend.” The difference in experience? Night and day. In order for me to give you the best experience I recommend booking no sooner than 6 weeks. This gives us all the time to discuss everything and ensure a smooth session.
This is where the experience begins.
Once you inquire, you can expect:
Over time, I’ve refined my family photographer booking process to eliminate confusion before it starts. If you want to inquire about your session you can do so here:
Wardrobe is one of the biggest stress points for moms and it is also one of the most important. Which is why I have a session guide I send you after you book. This comes right after you pay your retainer so you can start planning right away.
You’ll receive:
We also choose your location intentionally considering light, season, and how your children naturally interact with the space. I ensure that your outfits are a perfect match to the location as well.
This is the part everyone worries about! We have everything set and the day is finally here! So what happens?
A typical family photo session timeline on the day looks like this:
Your kids don’t need to sit still.
Your partner doesn’t need to “know what to do.” There is no just act natural because most of us are naturally awkward! It’s my job to ensure that you know what to do. Even the “chaotic” moments? They often become the most meaningful images.
This is where the magic really happens.
After your session, I begin:
I make sure that your gallery is the best that it can be. You will receive all the best images edited and ready for your album or wall art. It is truly such a special and meaningful gallery.
From the moment you inquire, everything is designed to feel effortless and elevated. You’ll never be left guessing what comes next. Families often tell me their favorite part isn’t just the photos but it’s how easy the entire process felt.
And that’s intentional.
The timeline isn’t something to stress about — it’s what allows you to show up fully present. You don’t need to know everything before booking. That’s what I’m here for.
If you’re thinking about a session this season, I recommend reaching out early — especially for fall and holiday timing — so you have the most flexibility.

After years of guiding families through this process, one thing is clear:
The most meaningful images don’t come from perfect behavior or perfect outfits.
They come from families who feel relaxed, prepared, and present.
And that starts with understanding the journey before you ever step in front of the camera.

MOTHERHOOD CHANGED ME IN WATS THAT I HAD NEVER EXPECTED. AFTER WALKING THROUGH PPD, I LEARNED HOW TO TENDER AND UNSEEN A MOTHER'S HEART CAN FEEL. I UNDERSTAND HOW MEANINGFUL IT IS TO BE MET WITH LOVE AND CARE,
AS A MOTHER, I LEAD WITH GENTLENESS. AS AN ARTIST, I CREATE THE SAME WAY; SOFTLY, THOUGHTFULLY, AND WITH INTENTION. EACH SESSION THAT I CURATE FOR A FAMILY IS DONE WITH CARE. I PHOTOGRAPH MOTHER'S THE WAY THAT I ONCE NEEDED TO BE SEEN. I ENSURE THAT MOTHER'S AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE GUIDED AND HONORED WHEN THEY ARE IN FRONT OF ME.
EACH TIME A MOTHER SELECTS ME TO CREATE A STORY WITH THEIR IMAGES I AM HONORED. IT BRINGS ME SO MUCH JOY TO HELP OTHERS CREATE MOMENTS THAT ARE TIMELESS.
